National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the Joint CSIR-UGC NET December 2025 notification for determining eligibility of Indian nationals for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and/or appointment as Assistant Professor, as well as for admission to Ph.D. programmes in Indian universities and colleges. Eligible candidates may apply online from 25-September-2025 to 24-October-2025 at the official website. Candidates are advised to read the detailed notification before applying.

Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification:
(a) Candidates from General/UR/EWS categories must have 55% marks (without rounding off) in a Masterβs degree or equivalent from a UGC-recognized university.
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender candidates need 50% marks.
(b) Candidates awaiting results or pursuing their Masterβs can also apply provisionally, but must complete the degree with required marks within 2 years (for JRF/Assistant Professor) or 1 year (for Ph.D. admission only) from the NET result date.
(c) Third gender candidates get the same relaxations in age, fees, and eligibility as SC/ST/PwD candidates. Their cut-off marks will be the lowest among reserved categories.
(d) Ph.D. holders who completed their Masterβs by 19 Sept 1991 get a 5% relaxation (i.e., 50% minimum required).
(e) Candidates should appear in the subject of their post-graduation. If not listed, they may choose a related subject (see Appendix-II).
(f) Candidates with a 4-year/8-semester bachelorβs degree must have 75% marks (or equivalent grade). 5% relaxation is allowed for reserved/EWS categories. Such candidates are eligible for JRF and Ph.D. admission only, not for Assistant Professor posts.
(g) Final-year students of a 4-year bachelorβs program can apply provisionally, subject to completing degree requirements within 2 years (JRF) or 1 year (Ph.D. admission only).
(h) 4-year degree holders may choose any subject in which they wish to pursue a Ph.D., regardless of their undergraduate discipline.
(i) No need to send documents or forms to NTA. Candidates must self-verify eligibility; ineligible candidates will face cancellation and legal action if found later.
(j) Candidates with foreign degrees or diplomas must ensure equivalence with Indian Masterβs degrees from AIU (www.aiu.ac.in); Law graduates should confirm with the Bar Council of India.

How to Apply
1. Before Applying:
Keep ready documents like academic certificates, valid ID (Aadhaar/Passport/Voter ID, etc.), category/EWS/PwD certificate (if applicable), scanned photo (10β200 KB) and signature (10β50 KB), email ID, mobile number, and choice of 4 exam cities.
2. Application Mode:
Apply online only at https://csirnet.nta.nic.in. No offline or hard copy submission is accepted.
3. Application Steps:

Step 1: Register using your own email ID & mobile number to get the Application No.

Step 2: Fill the form and upload required documents (photo, signature, certificates).

Step 3: Pay the fee via Net Banking/Debit/Credit Card/UPI and download the Confirmation Page.
Applications without successful payment or incomplete steps will be rejected.
4. Key Guidelines:

Only one application per candidate is allowed.

Carefully check details before submission; corrections allowed only during the correction window.

Retain printouts of the Confirmation Page and fee receipt.

NTA will not verify eligibility during registration β invalid details may lead to cancellation or legal action.
5. Exam City Choice:
Select four preferred cities. Once allotted, the center cannot be changed.

Signature in running handwriting only.

Certificates (Result Awaited, Category, PwD) must be uploaded in PDF (50β300 KB).
